Formed in 2023 from an environmental discussion group in Maidstone, the Maidstone Climate Action Network (Maidstone CAN) was initially established to provide the governance and administration, committee, constitution, and bank account, needed to support a Repair Café.
Although the first Repair Café in January 2024 was planned in just a couple of months, it benefited from excellent support from Maidstone Borough Council, Maidstone Market, and a newly formed Maidstone CAN committee. The event was a great success, with 82 items brought in for repair.
The Repair Café remains the backbone of Maidstone CAN. The spacious Market Hall enables themed events to run alongside the Café, helping to bring climate action and environmental issues to a wider Maidstone audience.
Monthly open “chat” meetings provide an informal, environmentally focused social space where plans, projects, successes, and challenges are shared.
