Maidstone’s Big Day Out
On Saturday 13 June, the second Maidstone’s Big Day Out festival will take place across the entire borough, delivered in partnership with Maidstone CAN and supported by Maidstone Borough Council.
Following the success of last year’s event when over 30 groups took part and more than 10,000 residents enjoyed activities across the borough, we are delighted to bring the festival back.
Aligned with the national Great Big Green Week, Maidstone’s Big Day Out is a full-day celebration of coordinated events, giving residents the chance to explore and enjoy the very best of Maidstone’s natural beauty, green spaces, and community-led activities.
Electric Car Event
Maidstone CAN was at the MBC electirc car event on 19th April. Excellent opportunity to network with a variety of sustainable organisations and with the hosts at Mid Kent College Training (MKCT) in their super sustainable building.
New Pollinator-Friendly Planters at Maidstone West Station
New raised planters and pollinator-friendly planting are bringing fresh colour and biodiversity to Maidstone West Station.
Supporting Biodiversity at Maidstone West
Herbs for bees and other pollinators: The newly installed planters at Maidstone West Station have been filled with a carefully chosen selection of herbs designed to attract and support pollinators, including bees, moths, butterflies and flies. Together, they help move the station closer to its goal of increasing local biodiversity.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the look, feel, and scent of some of the best herbs for bees. Varieties with high nectar and pollen content, including borage, rosemary, thyme, marjoram and sage, help support pollinators throughout the seasons.
These easy-to-grow, aromatic plants thrive in pots or borders and provide a valuable food source for honeybees, bumblebees, and solitary bees, helping to create a richer habitat at the station.
This community effort has helped create a greener, more welcoming station environment while supporting local pollinators and biodiversity. The project also reflects a shared commitment to making Maidstone West Station a more attractive and enjoyable place for visitors.
Materials were ferried across the track using the Barrow Crossing during the project.

Litterpicking
Sun was shining on the day. Lots of litter being picked up from our environment. 
Tomas from the ‘Spotless Lane Project’ in Downswood joined us to add another bag to his tally! He has picked up 235 bags since first starting in November. Our 7 year old volunteer of the litter picking team asked… “Why don’t people put things in the bin when the bin is right there!!!”

Whether you’re part of a local group or just curious about getting involved, this is your chance to introduce projects, exchange ideas, and get advice and support from others who care. We meet from 7:00pm so you can grab food and drinks, with the discussion starting at 7:30pm in the Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre Street Food Area.
